Plot
Quilombo dos Palmares was a real-life democratic society, created in Brazil in the 17th century. This incredibly elaborate (and surprisingly little-known) film traces the origins of Quilombo, which began as a community of freed slaves.
Sinekatalog’s take
A lush film about a 17th-century free community founded by escaped slaves in Brazil. Diegues pairs history with music and festive color. Valuable for viewers who want an overlooked chapter of the Americas.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
