Plot

In 1988, as Chile's dictator Augusto Pinochet faces a referendum on his rule, a young advertising executive, René Saavedra, is asked to lead the campaign for the "No" vote. Using the methods of commercial advertising, with jingles and rainbows, he sells optimism, while the regime tries to intimidate him. Pablo Larraín's 2012 film, with Gael García Bernal, was nominated for an Academy Award.

Sinekatalog’s take

Pablo Larraín's drama about the 1988 Chilean referendum campaign is witty and sharply observed. Gael García Bernal is great, and the film's period-video look gives it urgency.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
