Sinekatalog’s take
Ritwik Ghatak's first feature, shot in 1952 and released after his death, follows a jobless young man in Calcutta and his struggling family. Raw and compassionate, with early social-realist ideas, it is a key, rediscovered work of Indian cinema.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
