Plot

For 14-year-old Adam, the world of his poor Romany village has only two joys: boxing and Julka, a friend his same age. But after the violent death of his father, the boy experiences life’s harsher side: his mother remarries and his stepfather demands obedience without seeking to deserve Adam’s respect.

Sinekatalog’s take

A fourteen-year-old boy in a poor Romany village loves boxing and a girl his age, until his father's violent death pushes him into harsher adult realities. Šulík shows the community with warmth and honesty. A touching coming-of-age portrait that avoids easy sentiment.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
