Born in Milan in 1928 and dying in Paris in 1997, Marco Ferreri made provocative, black-humoured films attacking bourgeois society, consumerism and sexual convention. He worked in Spain, Italy and France. El pisito (1959) and El cochecito (1960) were Spanish black comedies. La Grande Bouffe (1973), in which four friends gather in a villa to eat themselves to death, was booed at Cannes and won the FIPRESCI prize. Dillinger Is Dead (1969) and The Last Woman (1976) were similarly confrontational.
