1961'de Blackburn'de doğan Michael Winterbottom, edebî uyarlamalar, komediler, belgeseller ve siyasi dramalar arasında gidip gelen en üretken İngiliz yönetmenlerden biridir. Jude (1996) Hardy'yi uyarladı, Welcome to Sarajevo (1997) savaş muhabirleriyle geçirdiği zamana dayanıyordu ve 24 Hour Party People (2002) Factory Records'un ve Manchester müzik sahnesinin hikâyesini anlatır. Afgan mültecileri Londra'ya kadar izleyen bir belgesel-dram olan In This World (2002) Berlin'de Altın Ayı'yı kazandı. The Trip dizisinde sık sık Steve Coogan ile çalıştı.
